5 Reasons Going Greek Has Changed My Life

Going Greek was something I never thought of before coming into college. I was always told it was "just a way to buy friends", but after a year of college and seeing how much fun my gal pals were having in their sororities, I decided to give Greek Life a try. But first, I had to go through Hell... I mean Recruitment Week.
Honestly, Recruitment Week is not as bad as everyone makes it sound.
After going through Recruitment Week, I was blessed with the sorority of Alpha Omicron Pi. Now here are 5 reasons why AOII has changed my life for the better.
1. I am a founding member.
I was chosen to be one of 120 women to be the founding members of AOII, which meant that we got to make the sorority how we wanted. This opportunity exposed me to how sororities are actually made. Instead of just joining something that already had a way things were, I got to form the sorority how we saw fit. I got to experience the sororities first everything; first recruitment, first philanthropy event, first time wearing our letters, and being a first time twin.

2. I am a twin.
My twin is my best friend and I wouldn't trade her for the world. Everyone in the sorority only knew each other for a couple weeks before we were given a twin. Thankfully, I was blessed with someone who was just like me in so many ways than one. We've had dance parties, hangouts, tons of picturesque moments, and so many memories that would last us a lifetime. Having a twin is one of the best things that has happened to me.

3. I didn't have to "buy" my friends.
I pay for my sorority on my own, but I have not paid for the friendship. I have paid for the incoming house, the HQ fees, and for other purposes I can't think of right now. All of my friends from my sorority are genuine friendships. They don't care about how much money I have, how I look, or where I come from. My friends are people that love to have wine night, love to go out and get dressed up, and love watching movies if we've had a bad day or if we just need each other.

4. I am a big.
This past semester, I was blessed to become a big to an amazing freshman. She is truly someone I want to leave my legacy to and all of my AOII shirts when I graduate. She is crazy, intelligent, kind, and a Disney lover just like me. I never thought I would get to experience being a big because I never had the money to buy extravagant things for her. But, my little doesn't need or want the best of the best, she loves hand made things and I love making things. Almost everything I got her for reveal week was handmade. Being a big has also made me become a better person so she has a role model to look up to.

5. I am an Alpha O.
Alpha Omicron Pi is something much bigger than just College Station. We are everywhere. Other AOII's around the country are so welcoming and can make you feel like you belong to their chapter as much as you belong to yours. I've seen some of my sisters be invited into other AOII houses at other universities. AOII is a home away from home and you can always count on them.

Thanks for pop'n in, Shell gals!
